NEW ZEALAND WINS, HOSTS PAKISTAN CRASH OUT OF CHAMPIONS TROPHY, INDIA THROUGH TO THE SEMIS

New Zealand secured a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy Group A clash on Monday, sealing their spot in the semifinals alongside India. With this win, both New Zealand and India now have four points from two matches, ensuring their progression to the next stage. Meanwhile, Bangladesh and tournament hosts Pakistan, who have lost both their matches, are officially out of contention.
Rachin Ravindra stole the show with a brilliant 112 as New Zealand comfortably chased down the 237-run target with 23 balls to spare. Tom Latham (55) and Devon Conway (30) provided valuable support, guiding the Kiwis to 240/5 in 46.1 overs. Earlier, Michael Bracewell was the star with the ball, picking up four wickets to help restrict Bangladesh to 236/9. Despite skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s fighting 77, Bangladesh struggled to build momentum. Bracewell’s spell (10-0-26-4) proved crucial as he dismissed Tanzid Hasan (24), Mushfiqur Rahim (2), Mahmudullah (4), and the previous match’s centurion, Towhid Hridoy (7), to put New Zealand in control

Ben Stokes to skip The Hundred to focus on a pivotal Ashes winter.

Ben Stokes has decided to sit out this summer’s Hundred as he prioritizes his fitness ahead of a crucial Ashes series in Australia—one that could define his tenure as England captain.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Stokes made the call after discussions with Northern Superchargers’ head
coach Andrew Flintoff, considering his packed schedule. He is currently recovering from surgery on his left hamstring, an injury first picked up while playing for the Superchargers last August and aggravated again during England’s third Test against New Zealand in December. The Hundred kicks off on August 5, just a day after England wraps up their five-Test series against India. With the Ashes looming later this year—starting in Perth on November 21—Stokes has opted to manage his workload and keep himself in peak condition for the bigger battles ahead.
It's a sensible and cautious move from the England captain. His initial hamstring tear, suffered while batting for the Superchargers against Manchester Originals in just his third game of the 2024 tournament, had already sidelined him from three Tests against Sri Lanka and the first of three against Pakistan last winter.
"He doesn't bowl too many variations to us in the nets. He bowls just one type of delivery. Maybe, he doesn't want to show his variations even to us."

CHAMPIONS TROPHY MATCH PREVIEW
Australia vs South Africa
Get ready for a high-scoring thriller as Australia takes on South Africa in Rawalpindi, with a semifinal spot on the line.
Both teams come into this clash with powerful batting line-ups and depleted bowling attacks, setting the stage for a potential run-fest. In recent matches, 300-plus scores have been common, and with Alex Carey joking about the need for 400, that might not be far from reality.
Australia pulled off a record chase of 351 in their last game, while South Africa posted 315/6 against Afghanistan. History also favors big scores between these two sides—who can forget the iconic 434 vs. 438 game in 2006?
A win here will almost guarantee a semifinal spot, while a loss will make the final group match a must-win. If the rain stays away, expect fireworks with the bat.
On This Day

Sachin Tendulkar etched his name in history as the first batter to score a double century in ODIs, reaching the milestone in just 147 balls. His unbeaten 200 against South Africa in Gwalior was a masterclass in timing and endurance. Remarkably, after reaching 191 in the 45th over, he faced just nine more deliveries but still cruised past the historic mark.
India, in red-hot form, posted their second 400-plus total in three months and secured a dominant 153-run victory. Tendulkar shattered the long-standing record of 194, set by Saeed Anwar and later equaled by Charles Coventry in 2009. But cricket evolves fast—less than two years later, Virender Sehwag smashed 219, and in the years that followed, ODI cricket saw six more double hundreds, with Rohit Sharma alone contributing three to the tally.
