Jasprit Bumrah set to miss India's Champions Trophy campaign
India has been dealt a big blow as star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite undergoing a scan in Bengaluru over the weekend that showed no major concerns, he is still not fully recovered from the back injury he sustained during the Sydney Test in January.
Bumrah had already missed the white-ball series against England, and while his recovery is ongoing, he isn’t ready to start bowling yet. The BCCI’s medical team in Bengaluru is closely monitoring his progress, and for now, there’s no clear timeline for his return. He is expected to begin running in the next couple of weeks before slowly easing back into bowling. This is Bumrah's second ICC tournament missed due to injury, following his absence from the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia due to a back issue that required surgery.

Mumbai capitalize on stellar performances from Dias, Rahane, and Shardul to secure a Ranji semi-final berth
Mumbai 315 (Kotian 97, Mulani 91) and 339 (Rahane 108, Suryakumar 70, Thakral 4-70) beat Haryana 301 (Ankit 136, Shardul 6-58) and 201 (Dalal 64, Sumit 62, Dias 5-39) by 153 runs
Left-arm seamer Royston Dias’ maiden five-wicket haul headlined Mumbai’s commanding 153-run victory over Haryana at Eden Gardens, setting up a semi-final clash against Vidarbha—a rematch of last year’s final.
Dias sealed the win in style, dismissing Jayant Yadav with a top-edged pull to Suryakumar Yadav at mid-on. Shardul Thakur was equally instrumental, taking 6 for 58 in the first innings and finishing with a match haul of 9 for 84, as Mumbai bounced back remarkably from 94 for 6 on the opening morning.

Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka faces inquiry for leaving club game midway to play for T20 league team in Dubai
Former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is set to face an inquiry from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after leaving a first-class match midway to play for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 on February 2. SLC CEO Ashley de Silva confirmed that Shanaka’s club, Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC), is also conducting a separate investigation.
According to reports, the match referee was led to believe that Shanaka had suffered a concussion during SSC’s game against Moor Sports Club. Despite SSC’s relegation battle, he was asked to play and even scored a blistering 123 off 87 balls across two days. However, he left before the end of Day 3, skipping his bowling duties, only to later smash 34 off 12 balls for Dubai Capitals on the same day.
On This Day
The birth of one of Australia's finest openers. At the crease, Bill Lawry was the antithesis of today's noisy, exuberant pundit. Lawry, the opener, possessed a dead bat and unwavering concentration (he carried his bat twice in a Test). He made his name in England with 420 runs in 1961, notably an extraordinarily daring 130 on a bad, ridgy ground at Lord's. He then became captain, but suffered the price for being annihilated by South Africa in 1969-70 and giving up the Ashes a year later. He was let go permanently at the age of 33. Lawry quickly became a mainstay in the commentary box, known for his nasal exclamations and banter with Tony Greig.
