Mayank Yadav, LSG's fast bowler, will miss the first half of the IPL 2025 due to a back ailment.
The young speedster is still recovering from a lumbar stress injury

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will have to start their IPL 2025 campaign without their express pace sensation, Mayank Yadav. The young speedster is still recovering from a lumbar stress injury and has only recently resumed bowling at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he has been undergoing rehab since sustaining the injury after his India debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh last October.
While the BCCI hasn't set a definitive return date, Mayank's comeback will depend on his fitness progress and ability to gradually increase his bowling workload. If all goes well, he could still feature in the latter half of the tournament.
His absence in the first half is undoubtedly a blow for LSG, who had shown immense faith in him by retaining him for a staggering INR 11 crore ($1.31 million approx.) ahead of the mega auction. It marked a meteoric rise for Mayank, who was picked up for just INR 20 lakh before the 2024 season as an uncapped fast bowler.
The hefty price tag was a testament to his raw pace and match-winning potential. Consistently clocking speeds above 150 kph, he made an electrifying impact in his debut IPL season, bagging back-to-back Player-of-the-Match awards in his first two games. His performances didn’t go unnoticed, earning him a place in the BCCI’s fast-bowling contract pool—a sign of just how highly the selectors rate his ability.

Rohit Sharma to not retire from ODIs following the Champions Trophy success.
Rohit Sharma has made it clear—he's not retiring from ODI cricket anytime soon. After leading India to their third Champions Trophy title, the captain put an end to any speculation about his future in the format.
"I'm not going anywhere. Just making sure there are no rumours floating around," Rohit said with a smile at the post-match press conference after India's four-wicket win over New Zealand in the final.
When asked about his future in ODIs after securing back-to-back ICC titles, Rohit kept it simple. "There’s no future plan. Whatever is happening will keep happening," he said. It was a moment of reflection for the Indian skipper, who had led the team to T20 World Cup glory in 2024 before retiring from the shortest format. But for ODIs, he's here to stay.
"This is a huge team achievement. Winning two ICC trophies in a row, and doing it undefeated, is something really special. Not many teams have managed that," he added. "For us, the key was to be prepared, respect the opposition, and adapt to the conditions. We did that, and we won."
"In cricket, you need to have a clear mind, focus on the process, and trust your instincts."

On This Day
A dominant era cut short before it could truly take flight. South Africa wrapped up their first-ever series whitewash in emphatic fashion, crushing Australia in Port Elizabeth to seal a 4-0 triumph. Each victory was a statement—winning by 170 runs, an innings and 129 runs, 307 runs, and finally, 323 runs. But just as they were hitting their peak, South Africa’s journey in Test cricket came to an abrupt halt. Apartheid led to their international isolation, and for the next 22 years, they wouldn’t play another Test. The world never got to see just how great this team—stacked with talents like Barry Richards, the Pollock brothers, Eddie Barlow, Denis Lindsay, and Mike Procter—could have been.In what turned out to be their final Test, Richards and Lee Irvine signed off with brilliant centuries, while Procter showcased his all-round brilliance, picking up nine wickets. Meanwhile, Peter Pollock, in a cruel twist of fate, pulled a hamstring mid-over—an unfinished delivery marking the end of his Test career. It was a team full of promise, but history never gave them the chance to show just how far they could go.
