The perfect way to go into the ICC Champions Trophy

Gill's masterful century, backed by fifties from Kohli and Shreyas, powers India to a commanding 3-0 sweep over England

India 356 (Gill 112, Iyer 78, Kohli 52, Rashid 4-64) beat England 214 (Atkinson 38, Axar 2-22, Rana 2-31) by 142 runs

India’s dominance over England in the ODI series was undeniable, but if their four-wicket wins in the first two games didn’t quite capture the gap between the teams, the third match certainly did. A crushing 142-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium sealed a 3-0 clean sweep, leaving no doubts about who was in control.

At the heart of India’s commanding total of 356 was Shubman Gill, who marked his 50th ODI appearance with a superb 112—his seventh century in the format. England found some solace in Adil Rashid’s brilliant spell of 4 for 64, his best figures on Indian soil, but the damage had already been done without more support from his teammates.

Matt Kuhnemann Reported for Suspect Bowling Action

In a surprising turn of events, Australian left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann has been reported for a suspect bowling action following his stellar performance in the Test series against Sri Lanka. Kuhnemann emerged as Australia's leading wicket-taker in the series, claiming 16 wickets at an average of 17.18.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) match officials raised concerns after the second Test in Galle, prompting Cricket Australia (CA) to announce that Kuhnemann will undergo mandatory testing to assess the legality of his bowling action. This marks the first instance in Kuhnemann's eight-year professional career, spanning 124 matches, where his action has come under scrutiny.

Under ICC regulations, bowlers are permitted an elbow extension of up to 15 degrees during delivery. If testing reveals that Kuhnemann's action exceeds this limit, he will be prohibited from bowling in international cricket until he undergoes remedial work and is reassessed. He remains eligible to play domestic cricket during this period.

Cricket Australia has expressed its support for Kuhnemann during this process, stating, "The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter."

Kuhnemann's unexpected rise in the series, especially after recovering from a thumb injury earlier in the year, makes this development particularly poignant. As the cricketing community awaits the outcome of the testing, many hope that Kuhnemann will soon return to bolster Australia's spin attack.

"He eats a triple-decker pizza before every game on the bus. And a Coke. That's not a joke."

Samson undergoes finger surgery, expected to be fit in time for IPL 2025

Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals' captain and India’s wicketkeeper-batter, recently underwent finger surgery but is expected to recover in time for IPL 2025. The procedure, conducted on Tuesday, will require about a month of recovery, giving him a comfortable window to regain full fitness before the tournament kicks off around March 21-23.

Samson sustained the injury during the fifth T20I against England earlier this month when a sharp Jofra Archer delivery struck him early in his innings. He managed to score 16 off seven balls before being subbed out, with Dhruv Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties and grabbing three catches in India's emphatic 150-run win.

As a result, Samson had to miss Kerala’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash against Jammu & Kashmir in Pune on February 8, but his focus now remains on returning strong for the IPL.

On This Day

A cricketing gentleman is born. India's Gundappa Viswanath was as well-known for his sportsmanship (he cost India the Golden Jubilee Test by recalling Bob Taylor) as he was for his rapid wrists and pure, mischievous stroke play. From 91 Tests, he scored nearly 6000 runs at an average of 41. And his runs were typically significant: he averaged 53 against the West Indies and 51 in Tests India did not lose, compared to 26 in those they did.
