RCB CREATED HISTORY, WINNING AFTER 17 YEARS IN CHEPAUK AGAINST CSK.

RCB delivered a commanding performance at Chepauk, stunning CSK with a clinical display in all departments. Rajat Patidar led the charge with a match-winning knock on a tricky pitch, ensuring RCB posted a formidable total despite a slow wicket, which made batting difficult. While 200 was the initial target, they knew even 170+ would be tough to chase. The turning point came early in CSK’s chase, as Josh Hazlewood’s first over dented their hopes, using the two-paced wicket to perfection. RCB’s aggressive batting, with Salt, Padikkal, and Patidar taking the attack to CSK, set the tone, while runs from Kohli also helped.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that 170 was a par total, but fielding mistakes cost them dearly. With the pitch slowing down and extra runs to chase, CSK’s middle order struggled to get comfortable, with Rachin anchoring one end, Hooda failing to accelerate, and Shivam Dube falling at a crucial moment. Yash Dayal’s double strike sealed the contest, and though Ashwin, Jadeja, and Dhoni managed late runs, the match was long gone. RCB’s fearless approach and smart bowling changes, especially using Livingstone early, proved decisive. This victory not only silenced the Chepauk crowd but also sent a strong statement to the rest of the league. CSK, now heading to Guwahati, must regroup and improve their fielding to avoid another costly defeat.

Tamim Iqbal has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has returned home after being discharged from the hospital on Friday, four days after suffering a heart attack. While he is now in stable condition, Tamim will remain under medical supervision for the next few weeks following an angioplasty surgery performed on Monday.

The incident occurred while Tamim was leading Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Dhaka Premier League match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP. Shortly after the toss, he began feeling unwell and was immediately taken to KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar. However, his condition deteriorated rapidly, and as he was being transported back to BKSP, he collapsed. The situation turned critical, forcing the Mohammedan team physio to perform CPR before the hospital administered shock therapy to revive him.

Once conscious, Tamim underwent an emergency procedure where doctors placed a stent in one of his arteries. The cricketing fraternity was left in shock, with family, teammates, coaches, journalists, and fans gathering to support him. Doctors closely monitored his condition, noting that the first 72 hours post-surgery would be crucial.

After spending two days in intensive care, Tamim was moved to another hospital in Dhaka before being discharged.

Despite retiring from international cricket in January 2024, Tamim has continued to shine in domestic tournaments. He recently led Fortune Barishal to their second BPL title and has been in fine form in the DPL, scoring two centuries for Mohammedan.

For now, his focus remains on rest and recovery, and specialists are monitoring his progress closely.

I really hope we see them get 300 this year, just not against us"

On This Day

In the long history of Test cricket, few records seem as unbreakable as New Zealand’s infamous 26 all out, the lowest team total ever recorded. This historic collapse took place in Auckland against England, in what would also be Len Hutton’s final Test.

Trailing by 46 runs after the first innings, New Zealand still had hopes of putting up a fight. However, what followed was a complete batting disaster. England’s bowlers ran riot, with Bob Appleyard (4 for 7) and Brian Statham (3 for 9) dismantling the batting order. Meanwhile, Frank Tyson, despite returning 2 for 10 off seven overs, was erratic compared to his teammates.

The match ended in an innings victory for England, sealing New Zealand’s place in history for all the wrong reasons. Even in today’s fast-paced, aggressive style of Test cricket, it’s hard to imagine any team sinking below 26 all out.
