Punjab Kings Dominate Lucknow as Prabhsimran Fires Off to a Blazing Start
Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a statement win in the IPL 2025, easily chasing down a target of 172 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a statement win in the IPL 2025, easily chasing down a target of 172 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The victory, coming after their explosive batting display in Ahmedabad, further underlined their dominance, as they dismantled the LSG bowling attack on a pitch that initially appeared tricky.
The star of the night was Prabhsimran Singh, who unleashed a sensational knock, showcasing his ability to take on both pace and spin. The young opener, a long-time part of the franchise, finally seems to be coming into his own, as he made light work of the chase. Shreyas Iyer, continuing his stellar form, played yet another fluent innings, bringing up a classy fifty off just 30 balls. Meanwhile, Nehal Wadhera, back in the XI after missing the previous game, capitalized on the opportunity and made a strong impression for his new franchise.
Post-match, Wadhera reflected on the team’s dominant performance, crediting skipper Shreyas Iyer for his leadership and Punjab’s positive team environment. “We really needed this win. The way Shreyas bhai has been captaining the side is fantastic. He told me to play my natural game and go with the flow. I wasn’t expecting to play today, so I had only brought one kit, but once I got the chance, I just wanted to express myself,” Wadhera said.
He also praised head coach Ricky Ponting for instilling confidence in the squad. “He’s one of the best coaches I’ve worked under. He never speaks negatively, always keeps things positive. That kind of backing from a coach does wonders for a player’s confidence.”
With this win, Punjab Kings have sent a strong message to their competitors, establishing themselves as one of the teams to watch this season.

Charlotte Edwards named head coach of England Women's team
Former England captain Charlotte Edwards has been appointed head coach of the England Women’s team, replacing Jon Lewis after England’s 16-0 Ashes whitewash against Australia.
“I’m thrilled to lead this team again and excited for what’s ahead,” Edwards said. “With the World Cup, home T20 World Cup, and even the LA 2028 Olympics on the horizon, I’m eager to build a winning team.”
Edwards, who coached Mumbai Indians to two WPL titles and led Southern Vipers to domestic success, was a clear choice for the role. ECB’s Clare Connor praised her as a "proven winner" with the right experience and leadership.
Her first match in charge will be against the West Indies on May 21 in Canterbury.

On This Day
Born on this day, David Gower remains one of the most elegant batters England has ever produced. From the moment he stylishly pulled his very first ball in Test cricket—a delivery from Pakistan’s Liaqat Ali at Edgbaston in 1978—for four, he was the purist’s favorite. While his graceful stroke play often tended to loose wafts outside off stump, Gower was far from just a fair-weather performer.
His captaincy career had its highs and lows. He led England to a dominant 3-1 Ashes victory in 1985 but suffered a disastrous 0-4 loss in 1989. Under his leadership, England also secured a memorable 2-1 series win in India in 1984-85, though they endured heavy defeats at the hands of the all-conquering West Indies. However, his uneasy relationship with Graham Gooch eventually cost him his place in 1992.
Before exiting international cricket, Gower left his mark one last time—stroking Aaqib Javed through the covers at Old Trafford to become England’s highest Test run-scorer. He held the record for a year before Gooch overtook him. Post-retirement, Gower transitioned seamlessly into television, where his wit and charm made him a beloved cricket broadcaster.
