Sunrisers Hyderabad have been dealt a setback ahead of IPL 2025, with allrounder Brydon Carse ruled out due to a toe injury. In response, SRH have roped in South African allrounder Wiaan Mulder as his replacement.
Carse, who was picked up by SRH for INR 1 crore at the auction, had been struggling with a left toe injury that initially flared up during England’s white-ball tour of India before the Champions Trophy. The issue worsened during England’s opening game of the tournament against Australia in Lahore, forcing him to cut his spell short after just seven overs. Eventually, he had to be ruled out of the competition altogether.
Mulder, on the other hand, had an impressive Champions Trophy campaign, finishing as South Africa’s joint-highest wicket-taker with six scalps. The 26-year-old has plenty of T20 experience, having played 128 matches, amassing 2172 runs and picking up 67 wickets. Though this will be his first-ever IPL stint, he has already made a mark in leagues like the SA20, the now-defunct Mzansi Super League, and England’s Vitality Blast.
With IPL 2025 set to kick off on March 22, last season’s runners-up SRH will begin their campaign against Rajasthan Royals at home on March 23.to 4000 runs, getting there in 81 innings—just one behind Hashim Amla, who took 82.

India, Sri Lanka, South Africa to play women's ODI tri-series in April-May
Sri Lanka is set to host a women’s ODI tri-series featuring India and South Africa in April and May, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed on Thursday. This series wasn’t originally included in the women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), but has now been scheduled as valuable preparation for the ODI World Cup later this year.
All seven matches will be played as day games at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, running from April 27 to May 11. Each team will face the others twice, making it four matches per side, before the top two teams battle it out in the final. The tournament opener will see hosts Sri Lanka taking on India.
At the moment, Sri Lanka’s squad is on a white-ball tour of New Zealand, while most Indian players are engaged in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) back home. Several South African players are also part of the WPL. Before this tri-series was announced, South Africa’s next scheduled international assignment was a tour of the West Indies in June.
With the ODI World Cup set for October in India, this tri-series will provide crucial match practice for all three teams. Sri Lanka enters as the reigning Asia Cup champions, while South Africa had a strong showing in the 2022 ODI World Cup, reaching the semi-finals and eliminating India in the league stage. However, India remains the highest-ranked side among the three, currently sitting at No. 3 in the ICC ODI rankings, with South Africa at No. 4 and Sri Lanka at No. 7.

On This Day
Shane Warne was known for keeping his cool under pressure, but every now and then, his emotions got the better of him. One such moment unfolded during the first Test in Johannesburg, where Australia found themselves struggling. Surprisingly, Warne wasn’t brought into the attack until the 44th over, despite the match slipping away. When he finally got his chance—coming on as the fourth change behind both Waughs—he made an immediate impact, clean bowling Andrew Hudson. But instead of celebrating in his usual composed manner, Warne completely lost control, unleashing a furious outburst filled with expletives.
The Wisden Almanack later remarked that "rarely on a cricket field has physical violence seemed so close." His actions led to two fines—an initial £220 penalty from the match referee, followed by a much heavier sanction from the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), which docked his entire match fee of £2000. For the remainder of the match, Warne endured relentless jeering from the South African crowd, as Australia went on to suffer a heavy defeat. Adding to the drama, Merv Hughes also found himself in trouble, receiving the same fine after smashing his bat in frustration towards a spectator.
